  5. located at the corner of Willow Ave. and Lakewood Blvd.

  16.     The dealership was built in 1963. The building is a great example of "Goggie" design by the architect        

  17.     Paul B. Clayton. With its complex “flying V” sharply angled roofline soaring skyward, the Ray Vines        

  18.     Chrysler building was unquestionably eye-catching, which may explain why it was a successful car        

  19.     dealership for many years. It had polished terrazzo floors and large floor-to-ceiling display windows.

all about my ’69 Cuda

My father, purchased the car brand new in Nov. 1968 from the Ray Vine Chrysler-Plymouth dealership in Long Beach at the corner of Willow and Lakewood Blvd. The car has been in our family ever since. I was a teenager when my dad got the car.

It was the first car I ever drove. I took my drivers test in it, I went to the prom with it and even had fun in the back (wink)! The car passed to my brother, my daughter and back to me. My father passed away in 2001. I rebuilt it to honor and remember my father. I restored it back to the way it was when my dad drove it off the lot. I will pass it on to my grandson, Gavin, when I leave this earth.


In 1984, my father had to replace the 1968 built 318 cu. in. engine. He couldn’t find a good used one so his mechanic replaced it with one built in 1970. To work, 1970 parts had to be matched, (i.e. radiator, hoses, etc.).


For a time, the car was driven by my brother with some modifications. My dad fixed the engine again and it was given a superficial paint job in 1989. My daughter then got the car and kept it for a couple of years. After a problem with the differential developed, I obtained it in 1994, and it sat in my garage for 15 years.


In 2009 I finally decided to get serious about the car. I bought a new crate 318 engine and put it in, but never ran it. Because of a divorce, lack of funds and other problems, I did not seriously work on the car for another 7 years.


During those 7 years, I watched TV restoration shows, and I got the bug. Finally I began in earnest to restore my beauty.


On Feb.  12, 2016, I began disassembling the car.

On Feb.  27, 2017, I finished disassembling the car.

On Mar. 28, 2017, the body was chemically stripped.

On Jun.  19, 2017, body metal work began.


Between Apr. 2017 and Aug. 2018, the rear end, transmission, engine, front suspension, dash, steering, radiator, fuel system, brakes and upholstery were rebuilt. This was a complete rotisserie restoration. Literally, every screw, nut and bolt has been touched.


On Jun.   4, 2018, final blocking and sanding began.

On Jul.  16, 2018, painting began.

On Jul.  30, 2018, reconstruction began.

On Feb. 22, 2019, the car was delivered.

On Feb. 26, 2019, interior work began.

On Sep. 10, 2019, the car was officially finished.

On Sep. 22, 2019, I won my first award, “Best Muscle Car”.


2019 was the 50th anniversary of the car being bought new.

It had been 25 years since the car was on the road. And it

took 3 1/2 years to restore the car to a working vehicle.
